Ring Groups

Ring several staff extensions at once for an incoming call, and feed a Call Queue or IVR menu into them.

Ring Groups

A ring group rings a set of your extensions at the same time for an incoming call — whoever answers first takes it, and every other line stops ringing immediately. It's the building block behind both Call Queues and most IVR menu options.

Ring groups are self-service from the Wholesale Portal's Ring Groups page. You'll need at least one extension created first.

Creating a ring group

  1. Go to Ring Groups in your portal.
  2. Give it a name.
  3. Check which of your extensions should be members.
  4. Save.

A ring group extension number is assigned automatically — dial it from any of your registered phones to test it, point a DID's routing extension at it (Inbound Numbers) so outside callers reach it, or select it as a Call Queue's target.

How ringing works

Every member extension rings simultaneously (not one after another), with a 30-second ring timeout before the call falls through to whatever comes next in your routing (for example, a Call Queue if this ring group feeds one, or voicemail if that's how the reaching DID/menu option is set up).

Editing

Rename the group, tick/untick members, or toggle it active/inactive at any time. Deleting a ring group removes it and its member list cleanly — it does not delete the underlying extensions.

Requirements for members

A member extension only actually rings if it's registered — logged into the 6X Softphone or a SIP device. An unregistered member is silently skipped, not treated as an error.
